Antarctica is a continent located in the Southern Hemisphere, centered around the South Pole, characterized by an extreme polar environment with vast ice sheets, glaciers, and mountain ranges buried beneath ice. It is surrounded by the Southern Ocean and is the coldest, driest, and windiest continent on Earth, with no permanent human population and ecosystems adapted to harsh conditions.

What is the ISO Code for Antarctica?

ISO country codes come from the international standard ISO 3166 created by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). These codes are used worldwide in databases, aviation systems, banking, shipping, and international data systems to uniquely identify countries and territories.

ISO 3166-1 codes are the two-letter country codes such as US, FR, or JP. These are called Level-1 ISO codes.

Only ISO 3166-1 codes support flag emojis. Flag emojis are created by combining two Unicode regional indicator letters that match the country’s ISO two-letter code.

Antarctica is assigned the ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 code: AQ

ISO 3166-2 codes represent states, provinces, or regions. Example: US-AZ = Arizona CA-ON = Ontario Subdivision codes do not have flag emojis.
ISO-2 Code: AQ
ISO-3 Code: ATA
ISO Numeric Code: 010
