Greenland
Greenland
Also known as: Kalaallit Nunaat (Greenlandic), Grønland (Danish)
Greenland is an autonomous territory of Denmark in the Arctic characterized by vast ice sheets, glaciers, rugged mountains, and long Arctic coastlines.
📍 Greenland is the world’s largest island, located between the Arctic and Atlantic Oceans in the far northeastern part of North America. It lies between Canada to the west and Iceland to the southeast, with surrounding waters including Baffin Bay and the Greenland Sea. Greenland is an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark, with its own government but no land borders except a small shared boundary with Canada on Hans Island.
Greenland’s geography is dominated by a विशाल ice sheet that covers about 80% of the island, making it one of the most ice-covered places on Earth. The land area spans over 2.1 million square kilometers, with most settlements located along the ice-free coastal fringes. The coastline is deeply indented with fjords, while the interior is largely inaccessible due to thick ice and extreme conditions. Greenland features tundra landscapes, glaciers, and mountain ranges, including its highest peak, Gunnbjørn Fjeld. Its Arctic location, harsh climate, and vast ice cover have shaped its sparse population, unique ecosystems, and global importance in climate and environmental studies.
