New Caledonia is a French overseas territory in the southwestern Pacific Ocean characterized by a large mountainous island, tropical forests, coral reefs, and extensive lagoons.

📍 New Caledonia is a special collectivity of France located in the southwestern Pacific Ocean, east of Australia and northwest of New Zealand. The territory consists of the main island of Grande Terre, along with the Loyalty Islands and several smaller islets, with no land borders and surrounded entirely by the Pacific Ocean.
New Caledonia’s geography is defined by a mix of mountainous terrain, coastal plains, and extensive coral reef systems. The territory covers about 18,575 square kilometers (7,172 square miles) and features a long, narrow main island with a central mountain range running along its length. The coastline includes lagoons and one of the largest barrier reef systems in the world, contributing to rich marine biodiversity. Inland areas support forests, rivers, and unique ecosystems with high levels of endemism. Its Pacific location, natural resources, and diverse landscapes have shaped its economy, culture, and importance in mining, tourism, and regional activity.

What is an ISO Country Code?

ISO country codes come from the international standard ISO 3166 created by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). These codes are used worldwide in databases, aviation systems, banking, shipping, and international data systems to uniquely identify countries and territories.

ISO 3166-1 codes are the two-letter country codes such as US, FR, or JP. These are called Level-1 ISO codes.

Only ISO 3166-1 codes support flag emojis. Flag emojis are created by combining two Unicode regional indicator letters that match the country’s ISO two-letter code.

ISO 3166-2 codes represent states, provinces, or regions. Example: US-AZ = Arizona CA-ON = Ontario Subdivision codes do not have flag emojis.
