Wales is a country in the United Kingdom characterized by mountainous terrain, rolling hills, river valleys, and coastlines along the Irish Sea and the Atlantic Ocean.

📍 Wales is a constituent country of the United Kingdom, located on the western side of the island of Great Britain. It shares a land border with England to the east and is surrounded by water on three sides, including the Irish Sea to the north and west and the Bristol Channel to the south. Its location places it close to Ireland across the Irish Sea.
Wales’s landscape is predominantly mountainous and rugged, with much of its terrain shaped by ancient geological activity. The country is home to mountain ranges such as Snowdonia (Eryri) in the north and the Brecon Beacons (Bannau Brycheiniog) in the south. It also features deep valleys, rolling hills, and a long, indented coastline with cliffs and sandy beaches. The climate is temperate and often wetter than much of England, supporting green countryside and natural habitats.
Historically, Wales was made up of independent Celtic kingdoms before coming under English rule in the Middle Ages. It has retained a strong cultural identity, including its own language, Welsh (Cymraeg), which is still widely spoken. Today, Wales is known for its rich traditions, historic castles, natural beauty, and cultural heritage, as well as its distinct national identity within the United Kingdom.

What is an ISO Country Code?

ISO country codes come from the international standard ISO 3166 created by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). These codes are used worldwide in databases, aviation systems, banking, shipping, and international data systems to uniquely identify countries and territories.

ISO 3166-1 codes are the two-letter country codes such as US, FR, or JP. These are called Level-1 ISO codes.

Only ISO 3166-1 codes support flag emojis. Flag emojis are created by combining two Unicode regional indicator letters that match the country’s ISO two-letter code.

ISO 3166-2 codes represent states, provinces, or regions. Example: US-AZ = Arizona CA-ON = Ontario Subdivision codes do not have flag emojis.
