Guernsey (/ΛΙ‘ΙΛrnzi/ β GURN-zee; GuernΓ©siais: GuernΓ©si) is the second-largest island in the Channel Islands, located 27 miles (43 km) west of the Cotentin Peninsula, Normandy. It is the largest island in the Bailiwick of Guernsey, which includes five other inhabited islands β Alderney, Herm, Jethou, Lihou and Sark β and many small islets and rocks. The bailiwick has a population of 63,950, the vast majority of whom live on Guernsey, and the island has a land area of 24 square miles (62 km2).
Sark is one of the Channel Islands. About 600 people live on Sark. Sark also has its own language called "Sercquiais". Only 400 people speak it. No cars are allowed on Sark. People must either walk, go on a bicycle, or go by horse and cart.
Herm is the smallest of the Channel Islands that is open to the public.
Herm is only 1β1β2 miles long. Cars are banned from the small island just like its Channel Island neighbour, Sark. Unlike Sark, bicycles are banned too. The sandy white beaches make Herm a walker's paradise.
Guernsey (officially the Bailiwick of Guernsey; French: Bailliage de Guernesey; GuernΓ©siais: Bailliage dΓ© GuernΓ©si) is a self-governing British Crown Dependency off the coast of Normandy, France, comprising several of the Channel Islands. It has a total land area of 78 square kilometres (30 mi2) and an estimated total population of 67,336.
Alderney is one of the Channel Islands in the English Channel between England and France. It forms part of the Bailiwick of Guernsey, but its parliament, The States of Alderney, still has the right to make laws for the island.
