Gibraltar is a British Overseas Territory on the southern coast of the Iberian Peninsula characterized by the limestone Rock of Gibraltar, steep cliffs, and a strategic coastline at the entrance to the Mediterranean Sea.

📍 Gibraltar is a British Overseas Territory located on the southern tip of the Iberian Peninsula, at the entrance to the Mediterranean Sea. It borders Spain to the north and lies across the Strait of Gibraltar from Morocco to the south, with coastlines along both the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea.
Gibraltar’s geography is dominated by the Rock of Gibraltar, a massive limestone ridge that rises sharply above the surrounding area. The territory covers about 6.7 square kilometers (2.6 square miles) and features steep cliffs, narrow coastal plains, and limited flat land for development. Its coastline includes rocky shores and small sandy areas, while the interior contains caves and tunnels within the rock itself. Gibraltar’s strategic position at the junction of two major bodies of water has made it one of the most important maritime chokepoints in the world, shaping its role in trade, defense, and international navigation.

ISO country codes come from the international standard ISO 3166 created by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). These codes are used globally in databases, aviation systems, banking, shipping, and international data systems to uniquely identify countries and territories.

ISO 3166-1 codes are the two-letter country codes such as US, FR, or JP. These are called Level-1 ISO codes.

Only ISO 3166-1 codes support flag emojis. Flag emojis are created by combining two Unicode regional indicator letters that match the territory's ISO two-letter code.

Gibraltar is assigned the ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 code:
