The Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic is a partially recognized state in North Africa claimed over Western Sahara, characterized by vast desert landscapes of the Sahara, arid plains, and Atlantic Ocean coastline.

📍 Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic is a partially recognized state located in North Africa, claiming sovereignty over the territory of Western Sahara. It is bordered by Morocco to the north, Algeria to the northeast, and Mauritania to the east and south, with a coastline along the Atlantic Ocean to the west. Much of the territory it claims is administered by Morocco, while the Sahrawi government operates primarily from areas east of a defensive barrier and from exile.
The Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic’s geography is characterized by vast desert landscapes as part of the Sahara, with flat plains, rocky plateaus, and sand dunes dominating the terrain. The territory covers about 266,000 square kilometers (103,000 square miles) and has an arid climate with very limited rainfall and scarce vegetation. Inland areas are largely sparsely populated due to harsh conditions, while coastal zones along the Atlantic provide access to marine resources. Its location in the western Sahara and along the Atlantic has shaped its economic potential, strategic importance, and ongoing geopolitical situation.

What is an ISO Country Code?

ISO country codes come from the international standard ISO 3166 created by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). These codes are used worldwide in databases, aviation systems, banking, shipping, and international data systems to uniquely identify countries and territories.

ISO 3166-1 codes are the two-letter country codes such as US, FR, or JP. These are called Level-1 ISO codes.

Only ISO 3166-1 codes support flag emojis. Flag emojis are created by combining two Unicode regional indicator letters that match the country’s ISO two-letter code.

ISO 3166-2 codes represent states, provinces, or regions. Example: US-AZ = Arizona CA-ON = Ontario Subdivision codes do not have flag emojis.

⚠️ This entity uses the ISO assignment of Western Sahara.
