The Cook Islands is a self-governing island country in free association with New Zealand in the South Pacific Ocean, consisting of volcanic islands and coral atolls characterized by tropical forests, lagoons, and coral reefs.

📍 Cook Islands are a self-governing territory in free association with New Zealand, located in the South Pacific Ocean. They lie northeast of New Zealand and east of Australia, spread across a vast area of ocean with no land borders and surrounded entirely by the Pacific.
The Cook Islands’ geography is divided between two main groups: the northern group of low-lying coral atolls and the southern group of volcanic islands. The total land area is about 236 square kilometers (91 square miles), though the islands are dispersed over a large maritime zone. The southern islands, including Rarotonga, feature rugged mountains, lush vegetation, and fertile land, while the northern islands are flatter, with lagoons and coral reefs. The tropical climate and surrounding ocean support rich marine biodiversity. Their remote Pacific location and varied landscapes have shaped their economy, culture, and reliance on tourism, fishing, and connections with New Zealand.

What is an ISO Country Code?

ISO country codes come from the international standard ISO 3166 created by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). These codes are used globally in databases, aviation systems, banking, shipping, and international data systems to uniquely identify countries and territories.

ISO 3166-1 codes are the two-letter country codes such as US, FR, or JP. These are called Level-1 ISO codes.

Only ISO 3166-1 codes support flag emojis. Flag emojis are created by combining two Unicode regional indicator letters that match the country's ISO two-letter code.

ISO 3166-2 codes represent states, provinces, or regions. Example: US-AZ = Arizona CA-ON = Ontario Subdivision codes do not have flag emojis.
