Baker Island is an uninhabited coral atoll of the United States in the central Pacific Ocean, characterized by low sandy shores, coral reefs, and sparse vegetation.
📍 Baker Island is a small, uninhabited coral island located in the central Pacific Ocean, just north of the equator. It lies southwest of Hawaii and north of Kiribati, and is one of the United States Minor Outlying Islands, administered by the United States.
Baker Island’s geography is defined by a low-lying coral atoll landscape, covering about 2.1 square kilometers (0.8 square miles). The island is flat, with sandy and coral surfaces, and rises only a few meters above sea level. It has no natural freshwater sources and supports sparse vegetation such as grasses and shrubs. The coastline is surrounded by coral reefs and shallow waters rich in marine life. Its remote location and harsh conditions have prevented permanent settlement, and it is primarily designated as a wildlife refuge, important for seabirds and ecological research.
