Somaliland is a self-declared state in the Horn of Africa characterized by arid plains, semi-desert landscapes, mountain ranges, and a coastline along the Gulf of Aden.

📍 Somaliland is a self-declared state located in the Horn of Africa, along the southern coast of the Gulf of Aden. It is internationally recognized as part of Somalia, but operates as a de facto independent state with its own government. It borders Djibouti to the northwest, Ethiopia to the south, and the rest of Somalia to the east.
Somaliland’s geography is characterized by a mix of coastal plains, arid plateaus, and mountainous regions. The territory covers about 176,000 square kilometers (68,000 square miles) and includes a long coastline along the Gulf of Aden. Inland areas are largely dry and semi-arid, with limited vegetation, while the northern highlands feature more rugged terrain and higher elevations. Its climate is generally hot and dry, with seasonal variations. Somaliland’s location along a key maritime route between the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean has shaped its historical importance in trade, as well as its economic activity and regional significance.
