📍 Ascension Island is a remote volcanic island located in the South Atlantic Ocean, just south of the equator and roughly midway between South America and Africa. It is part of the British Overseas Territory of Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha and has no land borders, being surrounded entirely by the Atlantic Ocean.

Ascension Island’s geography is defined by its volcanic origin, featuring rugged terrain, lava fields, and a central highland rising from otherwise arid surroundings. The island covers about 88 square kilometers (34 square miles) and includes Green Mountain, the highest point, which supports more vegetation due to higher rainfall, while much of the rest of the island is dry and sparsely vegetated. Its coastline is mostly rocky with limited beaches. The surrounding waters support marine life, including important nesting sites for sea turtles.
